Gerald James

Head Coach - 31st Season

Coach Gerald James' coaching career began in Birdville ISD.  That was the year Haltom High made the playoffs for the first time in forty-one years (Like a Rock).  He was promoted to defensive coordinator in 1993, the year they advanced the furthest in the playoffs in school history.  Coach James was also part of a very successful baseball program and served as the Head Girls’ soccer coach for two years. They were bi-district and area champions.

In 1998 Gerald was hired as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach in Colorado ISD, (Colorado City, Texas) where they were fortunate to advance the deepest in the playoffs in school history.  He was selected “Big Country Coach of the Year” in 1998 and 2000, coached the Big Country All-Star team, and served on the selection committee for the State All-Star team during his time in Colorado City.  They were also able to win several district championships in football and golf, and produce several regional and state qualifiers in golf.

His career has also included being the Athletic Director in his home town (Leonard, Texas), during which time he was selected Texoma Land Coach of the Year, in 2003, serving as the Defensive Coordinator at Fossil Ridge and Bridgeport high schools, as well as being the Head golf coach at Bridgeport.  They made the playoffs in football every year, won several district championships in football and golf, and produced regional and state qualifiers in golf.

He is very proud to be associated with Boswell High School and to serve as the Head Golf Coach for the Pioneers.  His players all qualified for regionals during the first season, and have worked very hard to improve this season.  It is really an honor for him to see his young men and women learn how to experience success, and work through adversity.

One of Coach Gerald James is favorite quotes is:

“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.” - Theodore Roosevelt
