The Lady Pioneers jumped out to an early lead on Grapevine and captured a 12-0 victory on Thursday in game one of a three game series in Bi-District Competition.
Boswell put up eight runs in the first three innings, and left no doubt about the eventual outcome. The Pioneers loaded the bases in the first and scored three quick runs to jump out quickly. The atmosphere was electric for the playoff match – Grapevine and Boswell faced one another early in the season at the Mansfield Tournament where Grapevine defeated Boswell, 3-2.
Offensive leaders included Kelsy Paris with two triples, one RBI, and two runs scored and Julie Kennedy with three RBIs. The game became tense in the bottom of the fourth with a rough play at home plate which resulted in Grapevine's catcher being restricted to the dugout. When the game resumed, the Pioneers showed their resilience by maintaining focus and showing nothing but character and class.
Kennedy put together a nice outing. Grapevine managed just one hit off of Kennedy, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out five during her five innings of work.
The Pioneers went on to defeat Grapevine in game two 16-4 and clinch the Bi-District Championship. It is the first playoff victory for Boswell Softball since 2007, and a monumental achievement for a young Pioneer team. The Area Championship against Burleson is scheduled for a three game series – Thursday, May 5th @ Boswell 6:00, Friday, May 6th @ Burleson 5:30, game three to follow if necessary. Good Luck Lady Pioneers!
